Project Web Group Planning Document

Project Web: Generating Ideas
ENG 114B: Prof. Macklin
(adapted from Professor Jordan)
Spring 2012

This worksheet is to help you consider your rhetorical situation and begin to brainstorm for your projects. In your groups, please answer the following questions:

Whose minds are you trying to change about what and why?
We are trying to convince the minds of Youtube viewers by showing how posting videos on Youtube can be a powerful, useful, and efficient tool, yet there are still some people who post pointless videos.

What kind of information do you need to establish your credibility?
The type of information we need to establish our credibility are videos that will serve as proof for the claims we make. When we say that Youtube is a powerful and efficient tool, we will show a video with millions of views that has helped a person become famous, and when we discuss the counter-argument we will show a video that has only a few views.

How can you make your readers concerned about your topic?

What kind of support and evidence will be persuasive to them?

What values or interests do you share with readers?
Since Youtube is very popular among our society, we are sure that everyone uses it or has used it sometime in their lives. Whether it is for research or just for pleasure, people use Youtube in their everyday lives. This is common among us and also our readers since we go on Youtube for our own enjoyment or exploration for new ideas, research, or happenings in the world.

What differences in opinion or values might you need to try to overcome?
Different people have different opinions about Youtube. Some people believe that it is beneficiary while others believe that it is a waste of time. We need to balance these two out in order to have a clear idea for what we are saying so that our audience can understand our claims.

FreeWrite: 4/17

I think that online communication is more like speech, because you don't usually care how you are spelling words. In Facebook when people post up a message you almost never see a full sentence or words spelled correctly. I think that yea there is some writing in the web like when you are looking up a bibliography or when doing research, you go to pages where there are professional writers who are giving you information that is correct. So i believe its actually kind of both speech and writing.
